The Harlequin (201 Lower High Street, WD17 2UB) is the main indoor shopping centre, home to anchor stores including Primark, Marks & Spencer and Zara alongside dozens of other retailers. The pedestrianised High Street runs alongside it with further independent and chain shops, cafes and restaurants. Watford Market, on The Parade, adds a covered and open-air market open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Watford Junction station (mainline services to London Euston) and Watford High Street station (London Overground) both serve the town centre, a short walk from the High Street and the Harlequin. The Harlequin has its own multi-storey car park, with further parking around Clarendon Road.
